In collaboration with the Nubuke Foundation, the GPP is happy to be associated with the TalkParty series, currently held every fortnight at the Nubuke Foundation in Accra. The TalkParty is a series of poetry readings and interactions with creative people. Most of the participants are writers, artists, and musicians, but many others who like the atmosphere make the time to join the show. Entry is free and everyone is welcome. "Ehalakasa" is a concept created by artist and poet "Sir" Black and mystic musician and poet Nii Lantey, in 2007. In essence, it is a performance concept that goes beyond traditional poetry recital. The best way to learn about ehalakasa is to witness an ehalakasa performance. In 2009, the Nubuke Foundation offered to host the TalkParty series, and it run successfully from April to December, 2009. Flash back 2009: A poet reading his work at the TalkParty | The first TalkParty session took place on January 31st. It was a well
attended meeting, with many first-timers. Many poets read their works
and Nii Lantey performed his acclaimed "Ku Lu Ku Lu", and Philip Oyinka
excited everyone with his well crafted poetry, blending English and
Akan seamlessly. Apart from the poetry, a short but lively discussion
was held on the topic of cultural relativism. The TalkParty sessions start at 6.00 PM and end at 8.30 PM. Nubuke Foundation is located at 7 Adamafio Close, East Legon, Accra. Click here for a street map. You may e-mail martin@ghanapoetryproject.com for more information. |
